Primary and Early Childhood Mathematics Education Conference 2019

The Mathematical Association of Victoria (MAV) in collaboration with the Melbourne Graduate School of Education’s Mathematics Education Group (MEG) present a conference focusing on primary school mathematics education.

Leading whole school improvement in mathematics education   Improving classroom-based learning; Primary and Early Childhood

For mathematics leaders and those with an interest in mathematics education leadership within primary schools, including Principals, Deputy Principals, Numeracy Leaders, Academics, Vic DET, VCAA and others.

Themes for the day:

  • investigate the tools and techniques to support improved practice through collaborative professional learning communities
  • develop an understanding of how to measure whole school improvement
  • explore an understanding of the maths proficiency strands and general capabilities, and the teaching practices to support student development in mathematics
  • support teachers to lead the integration of both digital and design technologies within mathematics education
  • Engaging community and family in your mathematics program
 

This day was designed for primary teachers and early childhood educators regardless of experience level. Sessions built confidence and developed professional ability as a mathematics educator in a supportive, hands-on and engaging series of workshops.

Themes for the day:

  • improve your mathematics content & content pedagogical knowledge
  • work towards greater cognitive engagement through inquiry-based approaches
  • strengthen your ability to cater for diverse ranges of student needs (differentiation)
  • consolidate approaches to embedding critical and creative thinking
  • discover best practice integration of both digital and design technologies within mathematics education
  • Engaging community and family in your mathematics program

This truly collaborative event was hosted at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education, the University of Melbourne and included high-quality presenters and a variety of session options, giving participants the opportunity to learn from leaders with practical and educational research experience, from the Mathematical Association of Victoria and Melbourne Graduate School of Education.

Peter is the Webmaster of the Mathematical Association of Victoria. A long, long time ago he was a Primary teacher and then taught computer subjects and Mathematics to Year 10 before becoming a lecturer at RMIT and then working with subject associations to develop their web presence.
